The Danish Citizenship test is held twice a year – in June and in December, and takes 45 min.

The Danish Citizenship Test of 2015 is a test to demonstrate knowledge of Danish society, culture and history. A passed citizenship test is one of the conditions for obtaining Danish citizenship.

The next citizenship test

The next citizenship test takes place June 6th 2018. Deadline for registration is May 2nd 2018.

It costs DKK 768,- to sign up for the test. We accept all credit cards as well as cash. 

You have 45 minutes to take the test. The test is a multiple-choice test and consists of 40 questions. You must answer 32 out of 40 questions correct in order to pass the citizenship test.

Test fee

The fee to take the citizenship test in 2018 is DKK 768,-.

Requirements for identification

Remember to bring photo identification for the test!  The following identification papers are accepted:

  • Residence permit, alien’s passport, Danish travel documents (convention passport) or Danish driver license issued by the Danish authorities.
  • Passport, identity papers or driver license issued by the authorities in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
  • Passport issued by the authorities in any other country must contain a residence sticker.

What is required to obtain Danish citizenship?

Please contact The Ministry of Immigration, Integration and Housing in order to verify all information and requirements. Usually you are able to apply for Danish citizenship if you have passed Danish exam 3 or FVU level 4.

Where can I find more information about the citizenship test?

You can find information about the rules for obtaining Danish citizenship as well as dispensation at The Ministry of Immigration, Integration and Housing.

Practical information for test participants

Test participants with disabilities and/or special requirements such as:

  • visual difficulties
  • Hearing or speaking difficulties
  • learning difficulties.

can apply for permission to use special aid, be assigned a helper or be granted extended time. Documentation for non-visible special requirements should be no more than 2 years old and obtained from a physician, psychologist or another expert.

Application for special aid or permits should be submitted to Copenhagen Language Center no later than 4 weeks before the test.

How to prepare for the citizenship test?

The citizenship test of 2015 is a multiple-choice test held twice a year. The test includes 40 questions with 5 questions concerning current affairs and events in Denmark.

The remaining 35 questions will be based on the approved test material: Democracy and everyday life in Denmark.

To pass the citizenship test, you must answer 32 out of 40 questions correct. You have 45 minutes to answer the questions.

You need to provide the CPR number, name, address and telephone number of the applicant. It costs DKK 768,- to register for the Citizenship Test. You need to pay the fee at our office on Valdemarsgade when you apply.

We accept all credit cards as well as cash.
