FVU–MATEMATICS AND READING IS YOUR PATH TO THE DANISH VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS

FVU-Mathematics is a free course for all adults over 18 years of age who speak Danish proficiently and would like to get better at mathematics. Completing FVU-Mathematics Level 2 and Reading Level 4 qualifies you for admission to:

  • AMU (Adult Vocational Training) courses,
  • SOSU (Social and Healthcare Assistant)
  • a wide range of other educational programmes.

Understanding numbers, arithmetic and basic mathematic concepts

FVU-Mathematics at Copenhagen Language Center is specially designed for people with Danish as a second language, and can help you improve your mathematics skills.

Whether you have already completed your Danish language studies or are still enrolled in a Danish course, FVU-Mathematics at Copenhagen Language Center can help you towards a vocational training course or if you want to help your children with their homework.

FVU-Mathematics – new courses start in January 2018

We no longer accept students for FVU mathematics with start October. The next courses start in January 2018. Before enrolling in FVU-Mathematics, you must pass a screening. Sign up for an FVU screening here.

Are you 18 years or older and find it challenging to use mathematics in your daily life, or do you want to prepare for an AMU course or apply to a Danish vocational school?

At Copenhagen Language Center, we offer free courses in mathematics at Level 1 and Level 2.

FVU-Mathematics opens doors

IMPROVE YOUR MATHEMATICS SKILLS

FVU-Mathematics consists of 2 levels. Level 1 has a total of 40-80 lessons and Level 2 has 60-80 lessons. You can choose to attend our FVU-Mathematics course with either 4 or 8 lessons per week:

  • FVU-Mathematics Level 2 corresponds to 9th grade level (primary school final examination)
  • Passing Level 2 makes you eligible for admission to vocational schools (combined with passing FVU-Reading, Level 4)

FVU when it suits you

FVU-Mathematics courses are held at Copenhagen Language Center’s campus at Tøndergade 14. You can attend classes in the morning or evening, once or twice a week, according to what best suits your schedule.

Time 4 lessons per day
Morning  8:45 - 12:15 1 x 4 lessons or 2 x 4 lessons per week
Evening  16:30 - 20:00 1 x 4 lessons or 2 x 4 lessons per week

Before you get started

You must pass a screening before starting the course. The screening is a conversation and written test that takes about 90 minutes, where we will determine whether FVU-Mathematics is the right course for you and the level at which you should start.

You can sign up for an FVU screening here.

If you have any questions, please contact the office at our Tøndergade 14 location. Our opening hours are Monday 16:00 - 19:00 and Thursday 9:00 - 12:30.

A conversation and written test will determine the level at which you should start:

At Level 1: You will practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division – both in your head and using paper and pencil.

You will learn to use:

  • measurements and weights
  • fractions and percentages
  • length and height
  • width and perimeter.

At Level 2: You will learn about area, cubic measurement and figures such as triangles, squares and circles. You will learn to understand statistics and compile data using statistical methods.

In the FVU-Mathematics course, we use materials and situations from your everyday life.

For example:

  • an electricity bill
  • figures in newspapers and television
  • payslips and budgets
  • telephone subscriptions
  • sales, discounts and recipes.

We also use modern IT equipment in the course (computers, smartboards, smartphones).

Each level concludes with a final exam.
