I loved the summer school course! It has been perfect for us newcomers to Denmark – a good chance to meet new people and socialize. It has been really helpful to have lots of opportunities to speak Danish! I also think the resources are excellent – the book and the website. And the teachers have been really patient and friendly. This has given me something fun, social and productive to do while I look for a job and really helped me to settle in Copenhagen.

Instruction in Danish language and culture

HOW YOU’LL LEARN WITH US!

We have plenty of time in the classroom, but you will still learn a lot in a very short time. We practice all aspects of the language, with a special emphasis on pronunciation and spoken Danish. You will have the opportunity to speak, and the opportunity to listen. Your teacher will support and help you to quickly build your vocabulary, improve your comprehension and begin actively speaking Danish.

We utilize a wide range of materials and teaching methods, including:

  • Project work – individually and in teams/groups.
  • Presentations by you and your classmates.
  • Excursions, music, singing, films and videos.

Every one of our Danish teachers has many years of experience, so your teacher will be familiar with all of the challenges in your process of learning Danish as a second language. We are fully dedicated to supporting your efforts to develop your language skills. As you progress through the course, you will receive ongoing feedback from your teacher and good advice on how you can overcome the specific challenges you face.

I enjoyed everything we did at the summer school in order to learn Danish. The best part was going to the museum when we learned colors in a different way. And workshop days were good because on those days we actually implemented all the things which we learned during class and that's the most important thing.

A clear curriculum and individually-adapted teaching methods

When you learn Danish for beginners at our Summer School, you’ll get thorough and individually tailored instruction focusing on the key language skills: listening, speaking, writing and comprehension. We emphasize speaking and pronunciation so that you can quickly start speaking Danish – which we know is the key to getting off to a good start with life in Denmark.

With this course, you get:

  • A large number of lessons, which means plenty of time with your teacher.
  • Instruction adapted to the needs and wishes of you and your classmates.
  • Guidance and feedback on your individual learning process.

We build your language skills to a level corresponding to A1 in CEFR. In other words, we have a defined framework of learning goals – even as we adapt topics and teaching methods to your individual needs. This approach ensures that your learning is both relevant and useful. After the course, you’ll receive an A1 level certificate of completion.

Our learning goals are visible, enabling you to track the goals of the instruction and the results you can expect. Your teacher can give you feedback at any time about your progress in relation to these learning goals.

Self-study when you have the time

Our intensive Summer School is designed to maximize personal guidance through classroom instruction. The course only has limited homework and the majority of teaching takes place in the classroom, where your teacher provides feedback and support to ensure a productive and enjoyable learning experience!

If you want to speed up your progress even more, you’ll have access to our online universe of exercises and materials for flexible self-study whenever it suits your schedule. In our online universe, you’ll find:

  • Self-correcting exercises and quizzes.
  • Reading and listening assignments.
  • An overview of themes covered and the plan for upcoming classes.
  • A forum for discussion with other course participants.

This online portal enables you to adjust the intensity of your studies. When you have extra time on your hands and the motivation to learn, you can always find extra materials for practicing and improving your Danish.

We also recommend that you do everything in your power to use Danish in your everyday life! You will learn much faster if you put the language to use in the real world.

Summer School enrollment requirements

To enroll in our intensive Summer School course, you must meet a number of requirements. You must have at least 12 years of schooling and a good command of English. We also expect that you:

  • Are motivated and can dedicate the time required for this demanding course.
  • Attend classes regularly and actively participate in the classroom.
  • If you do these things, you are certain to learn Danish in record time!

If you have a busy everyday life with your job and/or family, we recommend that you choose one of our less intensive courses instead. For example, consider Danish Course Standard, where you’ll spend less time in the classroom but have considerably more homework and self-study.

You can also choose an Intensive Online Danish Course if you need greater flexibility, or a Saturday Danish Course if you have more time on the weekends.

There are no words that can describe my love for the experience. I personally believe that being in the summer school was a crucial and formative month for me because I was surrounded by new friends and supportive teachers.
